Duties

What are the duties of the Sound System Operator?

Run the sound system approximately once per month at the service you normally attend.

What does "running the sound system" mean?

During the service you listen to the music and adjust the sound levels to put a pleasant mix out to the speakers for the congregation

Where do I do this?

You will sit in the sound booth at the far back corner in the church.

What skill do I need?

A good ear. You will start by sitting with an operator until you are comfortable. Then you will run the sound at a service with a current operator at your side. When you are ready, you will be scheduled to run the soundboard by yourself.

How much time does this take?

This ministry is mainly done during the service, so if you support a service that you normally attend, there is very little extra time required. If you help at the 8:00 am service, you do need to be there 20-30 minutes ahead to turn on and set up equipment. If you help at the 10:00 am service, you need to turn the equipment off after the service.

How can this job help me?

Not only will you be contributing your time and support to the church, but you will learn how a sound system is established for a church, how to run a mixer, how to record songs, and how to add sound effects when needed. This is a great job for someone who is interested in music and/or in home recording studios.

Can I try this out to see if I like it?

Yes. Any of the operators would allow you to sit with them during one of the Sunday services to see what is done. To make arrangements, send a note to a soundboard operator. Include your name and phone number. A soundboard operator will get back to you. Thanks for considering this ministry.
