Adult EducationWe offer a variety of classes on Sunday Mornings at 9:00 a.m. To find out more, contact Roger Kodat at rkodat@aol.com. 1 & 2 THESSALONIANS (Room 204)Paul wrote these letters after he was forced to flee from Thessalonica due to violent opposition from the Jewish leaders. The events are recorded in Luke 17. Paul feels a strong call to encourage the Thessalonian believers to remain steadfast in the midst of great persecution, to warn them against false teaching, and to remind everyone that there was no room for idleness. The preface to a commentary on Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians, John Stott wrote: “it is the gospel which shapes the church, just as it is the church which spreads the gospel.” In this study we will consider the relevance of Paul’s message to the church today. In Stott’s words: “He [Paul] shows how the gospel creates the church and the church spreads the gospel, and how the gospel shapes the church, as the church seeks to live a life that is worthy of the gospel.” Scott Reiter is the leader and he promises an interactive class full of discussion. The class begins Sunday May 16th and meets at 9:00am in Room 204. All are welcome. Screwtape Letters (Room 201)The "Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis documents one side of a correspondence between two devils as they plot a course of destruction for a vulnerable human. All adults, high school and college students are invited to have a look into this diabolical correspondence. It will reveal the forces working on us through history and the discussions that follow will reveal how Christians are uniquely equipped for the battle against these forces. We will talk about temptation, repentance, good and evil, faith and grace. Taught by Tom Noble. This class will continue through the summer months. |
